Biography

Regina Coupar is a Nova Scotian artist of Acadian descent who lives and works with her philosopher husband (J L Schellenberg) in an historic sea captain’s house overlooking Chester Basin. She is pictured here with two of her grandsons.


 

Regina's works have been exhibited across Canada and in the United States and are included in numerous collections such as The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, the Nova Scotia Art Bank, and the Atlantic School of Theology. She holds a BA in Religious Studies and Fine Art, a Master of Theological Studies degree, and is presently working on a doctoral degree at TST at the University of Toronto (Regis College). From 2007-2011 she was Exhibitions Director/Curator of the Arts and Theology Program, a program she initiated at the Atlantic School of Theology in Halifax.
  


Regina is is the author of five books; including The Seeker’s Heart: Meditations Inspired by the Book of Psalms and The Art of Soul: An Artist’s Guide to Spirituality. She is a past Chair of Visual Arts Nova Scotia, a juried member of the Nova Scotia Designer Craft Council and a Writers’ Council member of the Writers’ Federation of Nova Scotia. Regina has served on the boards of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, the Cultural Federations of Nova Scotia and the Nova Scotia Arts Advisory Council.  Her primary focus both in writing and visual art is the connection between spiritual and aesthetic experience.
